Year-End Review of Employee Engagement Initiatives
December 8, 2021
In March 2020 we commenced our employee engagement roadmap and launched our first ever comprehensive employee engagement survey. For the last year and a half, we have been advancing TRCA’s ten actionable engagement initiatives, which are detailed in scorecards on the Staff Hub. As this year comes to an end, the SLT Champions and I are happy to report that our employee engagement initiatives are substantially complete.
With TRCA’s increased focus on employee engagement, what we heard most from staff across the organization was the desire to focus our efforts this year on engagement areas such as alternative/flexible work arrangements, work life balance, CEO and SLT increased frequency of communications and interactions, compensation, a renewed focus on innovation and cross divisional sharing of knowledge/collaboration, greater certainty around contract employment, a continued mental health and wellness focus, an increase in L&D opportunities, and a review of our benefits plan.
In March of this year, I summarized our engagement journey in a Recap of Employee Engagement Initiatives and 2021 Survey Launch blog post. Since then, we have made significant progress on deliverables across our five priority engagement drivers and shared our progress throughout the year. Today, I would like to highlight some of the key achievements made this year in response to the feedback we heard.
There has been a significant amount of progress and success in implementing our 10 initiatives and 10 supplementary actions:

Next Steps
Our SLT Champions and staff made a major commitment to complete these initiatives to address the findings of the 2021 Employee Engagement Survey and input received during information sharing sessions. This has resulted in positive advancements across our organization and has led to SLT embarking on major corporate initiatives in 2022 including work on the next compensation review, succession planning, and continued investment in learning and development, as a few examples.
As we continue to move our organization forward, we will be further empowering our Senior Management Team, Managers and Supervisors to drive job level engagement, particularly in the areas of communication, divisional relationships, learning and development and recognition. In doing so, we continue to encourage people leaders to advance employee engagement through divisional action plans, regular team communications including regular engagement updates to staff. It is also important for you, as an employee, to continue to provide constructive feedback to your Supervisors and Managers on ways we can enhance your employee experience and our organization.
2022 Employee Engagement Survey Launch
On April 4, 2022, we will be launching our 2022 Employee Engagement Survey. TRCA has again partnered with McLean & Company, an independent HR research firm, to administer the Employee Engagement Survey to gather your insights and feedback. Stay tuned for more information in the new year on the survey.
Thank you again for all the insights that you have provided to make our organization better.
Sincerely,
John MacKenzie, M.Sc.(Pl) MCIP, RPP
