New TRCA Corporate Policies – In Effect April 8, 2020

TO ALL STAFF:
Please be advised that effective April 8, 2020 TRCA brings into effect six (6) new and updated Health and Safety and Risk and Property Management policies. Copies of the full policies can be found on the TRCA Corporate Policies and Procedures SharePoint site.
- HR-5.03-P Work Refusal establishes and promotes the standards and best practices to address work refusals should they occur at any TRCA work location. It further identifies the various workplace parties involved in a work refusal and the process which must be followed to assure that the safety concern, which triggered the work refusal process, is adequately addressed in line with the Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- HR-5.06-P Working at Heights establishes and promotes the standards and best practices for any TRCA employee performing work at heights where they are exposed to a risk of a fall hazard in line with the Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other applicable regulations.
- HR-5.11-P First Aid, CPR and AED establishes and outlines training and equipment requirements for the participation in First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated Defibrillator (AED) use.
- HR-5.12-P Lockout Tagout establishes and promotes the standards and best practices for any TRCA employee required to perform lockout tagout (LOTO) in order to control potentially hazardous energy associated with equipment and machinery by bringing them to a zero-energy state while they are being serviced.
- CS-5.12-P Incident Planning is intended to ensure efficient response efficient response to various incidents and emergencies and to minimize injury, damage property and other losses associated with incidents that might arise at a workplace. The policy requires each workplace with 20 or more workers to develop and maintain an emergency plan. Please note that later in April 2020 Facility Managers and Site Supervisors for the worksites, subject to this policy, will receive a separate communication regarding the development of Emergency Plans.
- CS-5.22-P Liquid Fuels Storage and Handling establishes and promotes the standards and best practices for the storage of liquid fuels, including the installation of infrastructure related to fuel storage, to ensure the health and safety of all Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) staff, and to minimize potential risks associated with the storage and handling of liquid fuels.
All staff involved in work at heights, with liquid fuel storage and handling and staff that must perform lockout tagout for vehicles and equipment must review and become familiar with the relevant policies. All TRCA staff are encouraged to review all of these new policies. ll questions in regard to the contents of the policies should be directed to Clerk and Manager, Policy.
