New LMS Course Offerings- October/November

Good afternoon TRCA Staff,

We are pleased to announce the release of a new course offerings in TRCA’s Learning Management System. Courses can be found under Learning Management System (LMS) > Course Catalog:

  • York Region Digital Academy: GIS Level 1 and Level 2 (space is limited)
  • This workshop is presented by York Region, with two GIS workshops offered:
  • Getting started with GIS (Level 1): Basics of the ArcMAP and ArcCatalog within the ArcGIS Desktop Environment
  • October 4 and 5, 2022: (9:00a.m – 12:00 p.m.)
  • Dive Deeper with GIS (Level 2):  Dive Deeper into ArcGIS processes and functionality
  • October 26 and 27, 2022: (9:00a.m – 12:00 p.m.)
  • Detailed Design and Implementation of a Smart Blue Roof for Building Level Stormwater Management at CVC’s Head Office (Oct 13, 2022: 12:00p.m – 1:00p.m.)
  • Presented in collaboration with STEP, and Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
  • Will introduce smart blue roof design, operation and maintenance considerations and outline their potential to assist municipalities and private lands to better manage stormwater at the source
  • 2022 Ontario Flood Forecasting and Warning Series Stream #2: Experiences and Learnings (Oct 12, 2022: 10:00a.m. – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by Conservation Ontario
  • This is the second of five topics. The goal of the workshop is to provide links between agencies responsible for flood forecasting and warning, emergency management, flow measurement and data collection
  • Lunch and Learn: Identifying and Prioritizing Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) (Oct 18, 2022: 11:00a.m – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by DES
  • Will provide information about research on the identification and prioritization of agricultural best management practices using a fuzzy logic approach
  • Speaker: Aidin Akbari, Analyst, Ecosystem and Climate Science
  • Effective Stream Restoration Techniques (Oct 20, 2022: 12:00p.m. – 1:00p.m.)
  • Presented in collaboration with STEP, and Ontario Streams
  • Will highlight Ontario Streams’ methods for effectively improving streams in the GTA
  • 2022 Ontario Flood Forecasting and Warning Series Stream #3: Advancements in Technology and Hydrometrics (Oct 26, 2022: 10:00a.m. – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by Conservation Ontario
  • This is the third of five topics. The goal of the workshop is to provide links between agencies responsible for flood forecasting and warning, emergency management, flow measurement and data collection
  • Bird Friendly Buildings (Oct 27, 2022: 12:00p.m – 1:00p.m.)
  • Presented in collaboration with STEP, and Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
  • Will introduce you to the topic of bird-window collisions and how we can reduce this threat
  • GreenBiz Best Practices in Employee Engagement (Oct 27, 2022: 12:00p.m – 1:15p.m.)
  • Presented by PPG
  • Will provide information on business coaching at the nexus of social, environmental, and economic values
  • Will also feature two case studies from Husky Canada and TRCA’s Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program
  • Lunch and Learn: Planning Policy and Regulation (Nov 1, 2022: 11:00a.m – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by PP
  • Hear about the work of TRCA’s Planning Policy and Regulation Team
  • Speaker: Mary-Ann Burns, Senior Manager, Provincial and Regional Policy, Planning Policy and Regulation
  • Drivers and Implications of Stormwater Pond Stratification (Nov 3, 2022: 12:00p.m – 1:00p.m.)
  • Presented in collaboration with STEP, and Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority
  • Will focus on the issue of stratification and its main causes, including winter salt, temperature, and wind exposure.
  • Lunch and Learn: TRCA Trail Strategy Implementation (Nov 8, 2022: 11:00a.m – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by DES
  • Learn about the implementation of TRCA’s Trail Strategy
  • Speakers: Corey Wells, Senior Project Manager, Project Management Office and Caitlin Harrigan, Senior Manager, Project Management Office
  • 2022 Ontario Flood Forecasting and Warning Series Stream #4: Advancements and Changing (Nov 9, 2022: 10:00a.m. – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by Conservation Ontario
  • This is the fourth of five topics. The goal of the workshop is to provide links between agencies responsible for flood forecasting and warning, emergency management, flow measurement and data collection
  • Implementation from Design to Monitoring of Blue-Green Systems: Creating connected and multi-beneficial solutions for the road right-of-way in Vancouver (Nov 17, 2022: 12:00p.m – 1:00p.m.)
  • Presented in collaboration with STEP, and City of Vancouver
  • Will provide an overview of the City of Vancouver’s vision for blue-green systems
  • 2022 Ontario Flood Forecasting and Warning Series Stream #5: Emergency Management and Communications (Nov 23, 2022: 10:00a.m. – 12:00p.m.)
  • Presented by Conservation Ontario
  • This is the fifth and final of five topics. The goal of the workshop is to provide links between agencies responsible for flood forecasting and warning, emergency management, flow measurement and data collection
  • Innovative Subdivision Design: Performance of a pond with upgradient LIDs (Nov 24, 2022: 12:00p.m – 1:00p.m.)
  • Presented in collaboration with STEP, and Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
  • Will provide information on the monitoring conducted by CVC at a subdivision in Halton Hills that uses a treatment train approach incorporating both LIDs and wet ponds to manage stormwater
