Funding Opportunity – Zero Plastic Waste Funding Initiative
January 28, 2020
Maximum funding amount: $250,000
Statement of Interest due: January 31
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Zero Plastic Waste Initiative aims to effect change within and across the plastics lifecycle to increase collection, improve value recovery, and prevent and remove plastic pollution. The initiative supports projects that use an innovative and ecosystem approach that leads to measurable, positive impacts to reduce plastic waste and pollution in Canada.
Projects must improve the understanding, mitigation or remediation of plastic waste and pollution in Canada. All projects must clearly demonstrate that activities are measurable, and will contribute to the implementation of the Government of Canada’s zero plastic waste agenda, including its commitments under the Ocean Plastics Charter and the Canada-wide Strategy on Zero Plastic Waste.
These projects will help to develop and test solutions that will inform future federal actions and contribute to the implementation of the Government of Canada’s plastic waste and pollution commitments. Projects will also help to fill key knowledge gaps to inform decision making, mobilize stakeholders and strengthen collaboration, and demonstrate Canadian leadership.
Project must address at least one of the following expected results:
- Kg of plastic waste diverted, captured or removed from the environment
- Number of partners or organizations participating/contributing to the project
- Number of participants or Canadians reached
- Number of best practices developed/implemented leading to plastic pollution reduction
- Number of tools developed/adopted to assess plastic pollution
- Number of citizen science initiatives developed/implemented
- Total number of sites at which data were collected
Please note that citizen clean-ups, projects specific to fishing gear, projects specific to the design and recycling of boats, and projects solely focused on education and awareness are ineligible for funding under this program.
If you are interested in applying for funds through this program, please contact Max Smith (max.smith@trca.ca) as soon as possible to discuss your project’s eligibility.
Statements of Interest are due through the Grant Centre no later than Friday, January 31.
