Funding Opportunity – Toward Net-Zero Homes and Communities (TNZ)

August 4, 2022

Maximum Request: Not specified; however total Canada-wide funding available is approximately $4.2 million per year (recommended request: less than $300,000 per year)

SOI Deadline: August 10, 2022

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is funding projects and initiatives that support energy efficiency initiatives for the Canadian residential sector.

There are three project streams with one being of relevance to Toronto and Region Conservation Authority:

Stream 1 – Addressing Barriers to Adoption of Energy Efficient Technology:
This stream supports original and creative projects to overcome barriers to the adoption of energy efficient technologies that may reduce residential GHG emissions. This includes, but is not limited to, advanced envelope materials, assemblies and best practices, and electric heating and cooling equipment.

Please review the type of projects supported for this stream (linked above) before proceeding with your SOI submission.

Funding will mostly be awarded for 1 or 2-year projects. However, funding for up to 4 years is available for ambitious projects which meet multiple program objectives.

Projects must start before March 31, 2023.

Note that priority is given by NRCan to community-centered projects, particularly those that work with Indigenous, rural, or remote, and under-resourced communities. These projects should be conducted in collaboration with representatives from those communities and clearly detail the roles these representatives will play. NRCan wants to know how these collaborations will function.

Match required: 25%

Stacking limit: For total Canadian government funding (federal, provincial, and municipal) is up to 100% of total project costs.

In-kind contributions from a third party are considered donations and may count towards the Total Project costs; however, they are not reimbursable by NRCan.

More FAQs about the program can be found on the NRCan Website here

If you have any questions, please direct them to the Funding and Grants Coordinators: Max Smith (max.smith@trca.ca) or Samuel Hale (samuel.hale@trca.ca).

SOIs are due no later than August 10.
