SOI Deadline: December 15
The Habitat Stewardship Program (Terrestrial Species) provides funding for projects that contribute directly to the recovery objectives and population goals of species at risk listed on Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) and prevent others from becoming a conservation concern.
In order to be eligible, proposed projects must target the following species:
- species listed on Schedule 1 of SARA (except those listed as extirpated), and/or
- species that have been assessed by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada as endangered, threatened, or of special concern but have not been listed on Schedule 1 of SARA
80% of program funds will be designated to species listed on Schedule 1 of SARA. Ontario Priority Species are as follows: Bank Swallow; Blanding’s Turtle; Cerulean Warbler; Eastern Foxsnake; Grasshopper Sparrow; Louisiana Waterthrush; Piping Plover circumcinctus subspecies; Red-Headed Woodpecker; Spiny Softshell; Jefferson Salamander; Western Chorus Frog; Whip-poor-will.
Projects must have 1:1 (50%) matching funding, with preference given to projects with greater than 1:1 match and/or greater cash match versus in-kind.
