December 3, 2021
Maximum Request: $7,000 – $1,000,000
SOI Deadline: December 15
The Great Lakes Protection Initiative (GLPI) addresses the most significant environmental challenges affecting Great Lakes water quality and ecosystem health by delivering on Canada’s commitments under the Canada-United States Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.
Eligible projects will support action at the local level to restore water quality and aquatic ecosystem health by implementing projects identified in Area of Concern (AOC) Remedial Action Plans. Projects are expected to contribute to the restoration of Beneficial Use Impairments (BUIs) and the eventual delisting of Areas of Concern.
The GLPI supports the following:
Action: restoring degraded habitat; remediating contaminated sediment; reducing point and non-point pollution
Science: conducting science and monitoring to inform remedial action planning and implementation; surveillance and monitoring processes to track the effectiveness of remedial measures and confirm restoration of beneficial uses
Engagement: community engagement for decision making on RAP implementation and assessment; developing and maintaining resources for RAP decision making
No matching funds are required, but projects with matching funding will be prioritized. Projects may span multiple years, with a maximum of 3 years recommended.
Please direct your questions to max.smith@trca.ca. SOIs are due no later than December 15.
