Funding Opportunity – Great Lakes Local Action Fund

February 8, 2022

Maximum request: $50,000

Statement of Interest due: February 18

To further protect and restore the Great Lakes, the Ontario government is investing $1.9 million in the second round of funding to support local projects that have a positive environmental impact on the Great Lakes, with an emphasis on projects that also have social and/or economic benefits for their communities.

Successful projects will focus on protecting and/or restoring Lake Ontario or its connecting rivers/watersheds and address at least one of the following priorities:

  • Naturalization and restoration
  • Protecting habitat
  • Shoreline cleanup

Projects must contain actions to promote improvements and must have measurable impacts (i.e., outreach-only projects will not be supported).

In order to be considered eligible, TRCA must partner with a community-based organization and provide a letter of support.

Applicants may apply for $50,000 or less. Amounts greater than $50,000 (up to $100,000) will be considered only if they clearly demonstrate very high value in terms of environmental benefit to the Great Lakes and/or their connecting rivers, along with significant and broad community benefits and strong project design.

If you are interested in applying, please consult the attached program guidelines for further information and submit an SOI no later than February 18. If you intend to apply for more than $50,000, please contact max.smith@trca.ca before February 14 so that the project can be presented to an MECP representative to determine eligibility.
