Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy. The objective of the program is to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30 – particularly those facing barriers to employment – gain skills, work experience, and abilities necessary to transition successfully into the labour market.
Eligibility Details
Canada Summer Jobs funds full-time employment opportunities lasting between 6 and 16 weeks. Eligible positions must begin no earlier than May 11, 2020 and end no later than August 28, 2020. All young people between the ages of 15 and 30 are eligible for employment under this initiative, regardless of their educational or employment status.
As a not-for-profit employer, TRCA is eligible for wage subsidies up to 100% of the Ontario minimum wage ($14.00) as well as MERCs for up to 100% of minimum wage. Employers are encouraged to pay more than the minimum wage and offer positions lasting longer than the duration of the Canada Summer Jobs agreement; however, the percentage reimbursed will apply only up to the Ontario minimum wage.
How to Apply
If you are interested in applying for funding under this program, please send the following information to Max Smith at max.smith@trca.ca with the following information no later than Friday, February 7:
- Job location
- Job title
- Wage
- Job start and end dates (must be between May 11 and August 28, and jobs must run 6 to 16 consecutive weeks; these dates must reflect the duration of full-time hours for the position)
- Hours per week (between 30 – 40 hours per week)
- Number of positions for which you are applying (under each Job Title)
Once you have been approved to proceed, you will be sent a fillable form. Please fill and return the form to Max Smith (Funding and Grants Coordinator) at max.smith@trca.ca by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14. Please note that a separate form is required for each different Job Title.
The funding and grants team will provide staff with standardized answers for positions wherever possible.
In order to facilitate the application process and ensure the receipt of funding, please ensure that job start and end dates provided in the form accurately reflect when full-time hours will begin to be incurred. Failure to provide accurate start/end dates may result in loss of partial or full wage subsidies awarded by Canada Summer Jobs.
