Funding Opportunity – 2022 TD Ready Challenge

July 13, 2022

Expression of Interest Due: Friday, July 22, 2022

Funding Amount: $1,000,000 (competitive – one application per organization).
No other grant amounts will be awarded.

Applications for the 2022 TD Ready Challenge are now open.

The 2022 TD Ready Challenge is focused on supporting solutions designed to help people and communities who may be disproportionately affected by climate change, to prepare for, adapt to and help mitigate the potential impacts of climate change and/or to work towards a transition to a low-carbon economy.

The 2022 TD Ready Challenge seeks to provide financial support to organizations that have designed innovative, scalable and/or replicable solutions focused on addressing the 2022 priority of climate adaptation.

Examples of solutions could be focused on, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:

  • Providing support to address specific needs of those communities and/or people who will most likely be disproportionately impacted by climate change (e.g., physical and/or mental health support programs, programs that support flood prone communities) to mitigate the effects of climate change.
  • Providing support to communities and/or workers affected by closures of carbon intensive industries or sectors or are seeking to transition to the low-carbon economy (e.g., training, and upskilling people from disproportionately impacted communities for low-carbon industries).
  • Supporting the development of cleantech entrepreneurs, businesses and companies that are focused on the development of low-carbon power generation and/or efficient energy solutions.
  • Innovation in sustainable land use to help support the decarbonization of working landscapes.
  • Large scale green infrastructure solutions that are focused on improvements such as:
    • decreasing the effect of urban heat islands, such as removal of pavement and replacement with alternative ground cover.
    • improving existing infrastructure’s ability to capture stormwater flow and reduce flash floods.

TD will have a clear preference for those programs that:

  • Support communities and people disproportionately impacted by climate change
  • Have wide demographic or geographical reach in the areas where TD operates.
  • Use the grant to scale and/or replicate solutions to additional communities or populations (or pilot projects with material evidence of viable success and scalability).

The Grants:

For 2022, there are a maximum of ten (10) grants available under the TD Ready Challenge for Canada and the US together. Successful Canadian-based organizations will be awarded CDN$1 million each.

No other grant amounts will be awarded. Only one application may be submitted per organization, so this will be an internally competitive grant. TRCA’s application will be selected using a decision matrix.
