For media relations, the Media Relations Specialist is accountable for:
- Coordinating appropriately prompt responses to all incoming media inquiries
- Coordinating media outreach for all TRCA programs, events, initiatives, or newsworthy issues that have been prioritized for media relations support
- Ensuring, in collaboration with other subject matter experts, the accuracy of information provided by TRCA to media
- Ensuring media interactions are planned, prepared and conducted to support TRCA’s mission, vision, and, strategic priorities
- Ensuring that TRCA’s media relations activities are planned, resourced, and scheduled to best support the interests of the organization as a whole
- Ensuring information provided to media that carries high reputational risk is reviewed and approved by the CEO or designate
For media relations, the Media Relations Specialist commits to:
- Manage all interactions with members of the media, including setting up interviews, communicating information from TRCA staff members, and facilitating other requests
- Work with appropriate TRCA staff members and recommend media relations strategies and tactics most likely to achieve media coverage of initiatives prioritized for media relations support
- Coordinate with TRCA partner organizations as required on media relations matters
- Draft, obtain required approvals, and distribute media releases, media advisories, and other communications materials as applicable for initiatives that have been prioritized for media relations support
- Directly pitch media to cover newsworthy TRCA initiatives that have been prioritized for media relations support
- Monitor news media for mentions of TRCA and its initiatives
- Invite media to attend newsworthy events and press conferences
- Plan news conferences in conjunction with appropriate TRCA staff members for priority initiatives
- Identify designated TRCA media spokespersons and provide training and interview preparation
- Be in attendance, when possible, to assist key media at events and facilitate media interviews in person
