Staff Feature – The Planting Team

July 20, 2020

Earlier this spring TRCA’s Restoration and Resource Management planting field staff planted 38,971 bareroot and container stems, 87,910 seedlings, 20,450 live stakes, and 2500 herbaceous plants throughout 83 sites across our jurisdiction. All community engagement activities were cancelled due to COVID19 and the team implemented several of the scheduled activities with staff only.  This included 13 litter clean-ups at priority sites  as along watercourses and in naturalized areas, removing more than 3000 lbs of litter, as well strategic invasive plant management at 5 sites.

From the headwaters of the Humber, Etobicoke, Rouge and Don watersheds, to the heart of the City of Toronto and everywhere in between, tree planting leaves a living legacy for future generations of people and wildlife to enjoy. Thank you to all the staff who made the 2020 Spring Tree Planting season such a success!
