Staff Feature: The Lakeview Construction Services Team
June 7, 2020
Since 2016, TRCA has been working in partnership with the Credit Valley Conservation Authority and the Region of Peel to lead the construction of the 26 hectare Jim Tovey Waterfront Conservation Area. This large scale project was initiated to bring nature back to a community that has historically been surrounded by industrial lands and reduce the carbon footprint from nearby busy roads. By the end of 2019, the Lakeview team had managed over 1 million cubic meters of fill from Region of Peel and private sources combined, reused 250,000 cubic meters of construction rubble and placed 33,000 tonnes of aggregate for final shoreline protection. The team has created 350 meters of new habitat in Serson Creek, and 2.3 hectares of wet land with 45,000 plants, trees and shrubs. Even all this does not sum up the effort and hard work of the dedicated field staff involved in this project.
2020 is shaping up to be be a busy year for the Lakeview team with Applewood Creek and wetland being created, their first island creation, continuation of shoreline protection, topsoiling/seeding and tens of thousands of deliveries to attend to. The team at Lakeview are determined, motivated and passionate conservationists who always seem to find another gear to go to when a challenge beckons. The proud members of this team have changed throughout the years but have all had an impact on the site.
The Lakeview team consists of Bryan Widner, Nicholas Powell, Alex Grout, Pete O’Connell, Colin Kennedy, Steve Plume, Mavrick Purchase, Dan DiClemente, Nick Teeuwsen, Dan Wise, Gareth Gangabissoon, Jacob D’Onofrio, Kurtis Plourde-Rideout, Dean Sterman, Joe DiRocco, Hyacinth Bouchard (ERM), Alex Barber (CA) and many others at TRCA.
