Staff Feature – The Highland Watershed Greening Strategy Team

October 7, 2020

On September 25, 2020, TRCA’s Board of Directors approved the Highland Creek Watershed Greening Strategy (the Strategy) for use as a tool to guide TRCA and City of Toronto greening in the Highland Creek watershed.  The successful completion of this project is the result of years of substantial efforts from staff across the organization and from strong relationships with City of Toronto staff.

The Strategy identifies priority restoration opportunities within the watershed to support City of Toronto and other partner restoration projects, and more broadly identifies priority greening opportunities through green infrastructure implementation, stewardship, and land securement.  With this new direction, TRCA can better serve the City of Toronto in the implementation of its Wet Weather Flow Management Plan and its Highland Creek Geomorphic Systems Master Implementation Plan, which aim to manage impacts to municipal infrastructure from ongoing riverine erosion. Further, the strategy will help to inform priorities and actions to be taken under the Toronto Ravine Strategy. It will also help to guide and coordinate the work of TRCA across the organization as we advance projects within this watershed.

Below are a series of photo collages and a listing of major staff contributors – there are many more who reviewed the document and provided their insights.  Congratulations and thank you to the entire team for completing this important project!

Thank you again to everyone involved!
