Staff Feature – Conservation Parks and Lands Staff, Golf and Driving Range Operations

July 14, 2021

TRCA’s Conservation Parks and Lands team has continued to manage all aspects of our operations during the changing COVID-19 landscape. This has been particularly complex with the shifting COVID regulations. However, the CP&L team continues to remain vigilant, ensuring our operations are in line with current restrictions and available to the public.

Bathurst Glen Golf Course and Driving Range (BGGC) as well as Bruce’s Mill Driving Range (BM) were originally open for public use earlier this year, but were required to close shortly thereafter due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Fast forward to the afternoon of Thursday May 20, when the province announced that golf could re-open on Saturday May 22, leaving a little over 24 hours for operations to be ready to open on time for the May long weekend.

BGGC, BM and Lake St. George (LSG) staff immediately proceeded to bring back staff and prepare for operations. Staff from Black Creek Pioneer Village (BCPV) Maintenance Team, Petticoat Creek Conservation Park (PCC) and Claremont Field Centre (CFC) also supported the opening of these facilities. Their incredible efforts in helping to get our golf operations at both locations up and running in a very short time frame led to a very successful “re-opening”. It was truly a team effort!

Sandra Spudic and Gino Iantorno from BCPV did an amazing job bringing our clubhouse gardens back to life. Matthew Williams from PCC/CFC lent a hand at BM over the weekend, which was much appreciated.

When all was said and done, Bathurst Glen Golf Course and Driving Range as well as Bruce’s Mill Driving Range were able to re-open first thing Saturday morning and the 2021 golf season was again open for business!

This could not have happened without the efforts and dedication of the entire team. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude and biggest thanks to all staff involved.

We look forward to another busy and safe golf season!
