Staff Feature – The Ashbridges Bay Treatment Plant Landform Project Team
October 27, 2020
TRCA, in partnership with the City of Toronto (Toronto Water), is undertaking the Ashbridges Bay Treatment Plant Landform Project located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, east of Tommy Thompson Park. Erosion control for long-term shoreline stability and protection of existing facilities, as well as management of sediment from the Coatsworth Cut Channel, were identified as critically important. The long-term solution that was developed includes construction of three shore-connected breakwaters and a headland-beach system.
Construction began in January 2020, and crews have been working tirelessly through unfavorable weather conditions and limitations of a global pandemic in-order to complete the Cell 1 and Cell 2 confinement berms. The team is also well on their way to completing the filling of Cell 1. Despite these unprecedented times, the crew continues to maintain the highest level of integrity and commitment to the project and remains ahead of schedule.
