Resources and research recently posted to the platform include:

Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands Series (April 4-8, 2022)
Over the past four years, Environment and Climate Change Canada has completed a novel climate change vulnerability assessment of coastal wetlands. These webinars share the findings from this assessment, along with adaptation strategies and implementation options for enhancing coastal wetland resilience.

View the videos on the Knowledge Sharing Hub under Webinars and Lunch & Learns.

Urban Forest Best Practices Guides for Peel Region
TRCA contributed to the development of five urban forest best practices guides and an Executive Summary in partnership with Peel Region, their consultants, the City of Mississauga, the City of Brampton, the Town of Caledon, and Credit Valley Conservation.

These guides will inform partner municipalities in building a healthy and climate resilient urban forest in Peel Region.

View the guides on the Knowledge Sharing Hub under Technical Protocols & Best Practices.

Learn more about these guides from the March 29, 2022, lunch & learn session hosted by Margot Ursic, Principal, Planning Ecologist, Facilitator (Grounded Solutions Services Ltd.) and Jackie DeSantis, Analyst, Ecosystem and Climate Sciences (TRCA).

Green Stormwater Infrastructure Asset Management Resources Toolkit
TRCA worked with the Green Infrastructure Ontario Coalition (GIO) to produce an exciting new resource, the Green Stormwater Infrastructure Asset Management Resources Toolkit (January 2022).

The toolkit provides specific guidance, case studies, and lessons learned on how to implement Green Stormwater Infrastructure asset management for three different asset types: streams, bioretention features and permeable pavement.

Ontario’s New Excess Soil Regulations
Don Ford, Senior Manager, Hydrogeology and Source Water Protection, presented a lunch & learn on January 16, 2022, informing more than 150 staff about the new On-Site and Excess Soil Management Regulation (O. Reg. 406/19) and what these changes mean.

Habitat Banking Research on the Toronto Waterfront
The Lake Ontario nearshore area of Toronto and Region is being used as a case study to an illustrate how an eco-accounting system for habitat banking and restoration can improve aquatic habitat across the waterfront.

Freshwater Salinization
Read about how our freshwater is getting saltier, with chloride concentrations rising in regional streams, in this Jan/Feb 2022 Water Canada article. Main culprit? Chlorides from road salt. Even more alarming: chlorides are accumulating in soils, groundwater, and stormwater ponds.

You can also learn more by reading the Spatial Patterns (2016-2020) and Temporal Trends (1966-2020) in Stream Water Quality across TRCA’s Jurisdiction report.
