The Great Lakes Local Action Fund (GLLAF) provides funding to local projects that have a positive environmental impact on the Great Lakes, as well as social and/or economic benefits for their communities.
The GLLAF will provide up to $50,000 for projects that take place at the community level which result in environmental improvements to the Great Lakes and/or the rivers and streams that flow into them, with an emphasis on shorelines and nearshore areas. Successful projects must be completed by February 18, 2022.
Eligible projects include: engaging community members on activities that improve resilience to climate change and/or safeguard wildlife welfare and habitats; local clean -up; citizen science; engaging community members in invasive species mitigation; activities to reduce excessive road salt; etc.
Ineligible projects include: projects where the entire focus is on education and outreach (with no clear environmental improvements); feasibility studies or plans; beautification; land acquisition; projects done to comply with specific legal requirements; etc.
