September 22, 2020

Maximum Funding Amount: $100,000 – $6,000,000

Statement of Interest due: September 29

The Climate Action and Awareness Fund (CAAF) supports projects that will develop knowledge, tools and/or skills that engage communities in climate action. Community-based climate action projects should help to support Canada’s goals for climate action, such as net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The types of support, outreach and resources provided through community-based climate action projects may include workshops, networking, training, virtual platforms, climate awareness activities – including those related to Indigenous Knowledge – and more. These activities should enable communities to take action on climate change.

Projects will be supported in two value ranges:

(1) $100,000 to $500,000: Projects in this range must end by March 2022.

(2) $500,000 and up: Projects in this range must be completed within 5 years of their start date in 2021 (completed by 2026).

Eligible expenditures include salaries and wages; management and professional services; materials and supplies costs; purchase of capital assets (only for projects under $500,000); equipment rentals; overhead; communications and printing; vehicle rental and operation costs; and other approved expenditures.

Examples of ineligible expenditures include activities required by law and/or mandated by the government; infrastructure; recreation and tourism projects; preparation of formal curriculum materials; core administrative costs unrelated to projects; projects and activities already underway; land acquisition and property fees; and others.
