2020 Priorities

January 31, 2020

John MacKenzieI was proud of the great work we accomplished in 2019 to protect housing and infrastructure, to educate, to facilitate recreation opportunities, and to make our communities more resilient to extreme weather, through numerous TRCA projects and programs.

As we prepare for the opportunities ahead in 2020, our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) has reaffirmed our commitment to achieving the organizational priorities that are clearly outlined in our Five-Year Update to the Strategic Plan. SLT members have been working on developing 2020 divisional priorities that will support staff in their objective-setting process as we launch our new Performance Development Program.

Over the next few weeks, your SLT member will be speaking with divisional staff to ensure that over-arching divisional goals and objectives are clearly defined, understood by staff, measurable, and aligned to workplace and staff objectives. These discussions will be the pathway to cascading organizational priorities and divisional objectives to support the Performance Development Program objective-setting process. This work will ensure that all TRCA staff are working on key strategic and operating priorities that are identified as critical for organizational success.

Regarding changes to the Conservation Authorities Act (CA Act), SLT continues to be involved in discussions with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). Some members of SLT will be attending MECP consultation sessions in Barrie, Peterborough, and London over the next few weeks. We are also continuing to work with our agencies, municipalities, and regional partners on Service Level Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding to identify new opportunities and to confirm areas where TRCA will provide support for our partners.

In our ongoing commitment to maintain a service-oriented culture at TRCA, I would like to remind staff to read, understand, and incorporate TRCA’s Core Values into your daily work, as well as to refresh yourselves on TRCA’s Customer Service Standards, which guide interactions with stakeholders and customers, both externally and internally.

I will continue to provide updates to TRCA staff on the CA Act Review, and I look forward to continuing to work with you all to execute on our strategic priorities and to improve service delivery.

Sincerely,

John MacKenzie, M.Sc.(Pl) MCIP, RPP
