Photographs are important elements of TRCA’s brand. Wherever possible, stock photography should be avoided and original, high-resolution TRCA images used. If it is necessary to use stock images, they must be obtained from legitimate sources, in accordance with their terms of use, and not copied from online photo banks such as Google Images.
TRCA uses an in-house photographer and has access to a roster of professional photographers. When arranging for photographic services, please make the booking as early as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts and delays.

Imagery guidelines
Candid – If possible, make photos look genuine by shooting the moments before the posed grin, capturing the genuine smile/interaction.
Avoid generic – Play around with interesting angles and perspectives. Avoid the standard straight-on shot.
Show TRCA’s work in context – Capture people participating in a task, job, or experience. Show all the elements of the work, not just the finished product.

Sharing photos
TRCA may share its photos with other organizations for publication subject to approval by the Senior Manager, Communications, Marketing and Events or designate. TRCA photos published by other organizations must be credited with “Image courtesy of Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)”. TRCA staff who take photos and external photographers hired by TRCA do not receive individual credits for photos published by TRCA.
All images used by TRCA must have permission from the owner or follow the licensing guidelines.
Consent
TRCA requires a signed photo release form from any person who appears and is recognizable in a photo published by TRCA. It is the responsibility of the business unit requesting photography to provide adequate staffing to ensure a release form is completed and signed by any individual (or in the case of children, a parent or legal guardian) photographed. Photo consent forms are available on the Staff Hub for groups and individuals.
For situations where TRCA is taking photographs on behalf of another organization, a partner photo release form is also available. The partner name should always be put on the form.
