Emergency Aid for Turkey and Syria

February 14, 2023

In the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria, the death toll continues to exceed thousands, and a growing number of people are displaced and in urgent need of assistance.

Globally, governments and humanitarian organizations are providing immediate aid, but rebuilding livelihoods will require more assistance with the increasing need.

TRCA is sharing ways staff can contribute to these efforts, as well as information about mental health supports available to staff if you are experiencing a difficult time.

Donate Directly to a Canadian Not-for-Profit Organization

You can donate directly to organizations such as Canadian Red Cross, UNICEF Canada, Doctors without Borders, or Save the Children Canada, which are working to provide relief efforts to the affected communities.

Until February 22, 2023, all donations made by individuals to the Canadian Red Cross will be matched by the Government of Canada, up to a maximum of $10 million.

You can also visit Canada Helps to see a list of additional charities that are presently collecting donations.

In-Kind Donations

TRCA staff member Semiha Caglayan is volunteering with Turkish Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association of Canada, which is coordinating efforts by local organizations and volunteers, under the Turkish Consulate General in Toronto, to help collect humanitarian aid supplies such as shelter items, clothing, emergency supplies, and more for earthquake survivors.

In line with this, TRCA has set up donation bins close to the cafeteria at our office at 101 Exchange Avenue. You have until next Tuesday February 21 to drop off items.

Drop-off boxes have been set up at TRCA head office to receive donations to support earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria

Download the guidelines document for additional information on donation items.

Your generosity will help provide critical resources to those who need it most.
