TRCA’s 2021 Annual Report

February 25, 2022

John MacKenzieI am pleased to share with you Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s 2021 Annual Report, which highlights some of our successes and achievements over the past year.

cover page of TRCA 2021 annual reportPerspective, the title and theme of this year’s report, is aligned to each strategic priority within the Strategic Plan. Connecting the yearly accomplishments directly to the Strategic Plan through this Annual Report allows for a clearer understanding of how TRCA is contributing annually towards the 10-year desired outcomes and projected accomplishments.

While our Annual Report celebrates our successes and achievements, it also discusses the challenges we will need to overcome to ensure we accomplish our organizational goals and commitments. As a leadership team, we are committed to empowering our staff and working with our partners and stakeholders to tackle these challenges.

Please take time to explore our online Annual Report that helps illustrate some of your great work and contributions. While our report showcases work from across our organization, this year’s report highlights some of our work to address hazards and protect natural resources, and illustrates how TRCA contributes to the safety and quality of life in the communities we serve and our shared natural environment. We also discuss our continued work to adapt and respond to COVID-19. Whether TRCA was mobilizing its field centre kitchens to feed communities most impacted by COVID-19, delivering a mix of virtual events, or using updated field measures to safely implement large-scale restoration and infrastructure projects such as the Jefferson-Jordan-Jayfield Parks Natural Channel Restoration and EcoPark Project and The Meadoway, our impact was seen and felt throughout our jurisdiction. Over the past year, your excellent work continued to support projects across a broad range of service areas, demonstrating TRCA’s versatility and commitment to supporting safe, diverse, and healthy communities across the Greater Toronto Area.

On behalf of our Senior Leadership Team, I want to thank you for your efforts in 2021 to successfully deliver our valued services in this ever-changing environment and unprecedented pandemic. I look forward to working closely with all of you to continue to make positive change together for the betterment of our organization and for the communities we serve.

Sincerely,

John MacKenzie, M.Sc.(Pl) MCIP, RPP
