Thanks for Participating in Our Employee Engagement Survey
May 28, 2021
Last March we commenced our employee engagement roadmap and launched our first ever comprehensive employee engagement survey. For the last eight months, we have been advancing TRCA’s ten actionable engagement initiatives and ten supplementary initiatives, which are detailed in scorecards on the Staff Hub. In March of this year, I provided a recap of achievements made to date and announced the launch of our 2021 Employee Engagement Survey.

I would like to thank each employee who recently participated in the second year of our comprehensive survey. The survey results are in. A remarkable 82% of employees took the time to offer their valuable thoughts and opinions on engagement. I know that our greatest resource and asset is our employees. Without our employees, this organization would not be able to achieve the success it has. It was very clear in the survey results that our employees are dedicated and committed to TRCA, and the Senior Leadership Team and Senior Management Team want to ensure that we continue to grow the passion across the organization in everything we do.
McLean & Company has collected the completed surveys and has compiled the results. The overall results confirm that positive improvements have been made and recognized in several engagement drivers including culture, learning and development, SLT and SMT relationships, benefits, employee empowerment, and strategic direction, however, there are ongoing opportunities for improvement in areas such as rewards and recognition, career advancement, communication on the ‘why’ and communication between divisions.
Next Steps
Work Still Underway: A number of initiatives were multi-year in nature, involve municipal or funding partner support, and or Board of Directors approvals, and are still underway. The Compensation Review, Increased Transparency and Communication, Streamlining of TRCA Processes, Workforce Planning Review for Contract Staff, Funding and Complement Awareness, and Alternative Work Arrangement Program initiatives have all been initiated and advanced by SLT based on your feedback and are moving closer to completion. In addition, work on the supplementary Employee Knowledge Share Platform, Recognition Expansion and Mandatory Diversity and Inclusion Training, is also well underway and continues to progress towards completion.
Results Overview: Beginning next week, your Senior Leadership Team member will be meeting with their Senior Management Team members to kick off the next phase of our Employee Engagement Roadmap. In the middle of June, the Senior Leadership Team and I will be hosting virtual Town Halls to present organizational wide survey results.
Divisional Team Engagement: After the virtual Town Halls and over the month of July, your Senior Leadership Team member, working in collaboration with your Senior Management Team members, will hold a meeting to present divisional survey results and begin action planning.
Action Plans: By the end of July, divisional action plans will be rolled-up and Managers/Supervisors will provide divisional action plan updates monthly to their respective teams. This will include Manager/Supervisor driven engagement sessions and action planning. SLT will also provide quarterly organization wide engagement initiative updates on our dedicated Staff Hub Employee Engagement page.
Thanks again for your sincere participation! Your feedback is helping to make our organization an even better place to work.
Sincerely,
John MacKenzie, M.Sc.(Pl) MCIP, RPP
