TRCA’s 2020 Annual Report

February 22, 2021

John MacKenzieI am pleased to share with you Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s 2020 Annual Report, which outlines TRCA’s progress to date on achieving strategic plan objectives.

Conservation Matters - TRCA 2020 Annual ReportConservation Matters, the title and theme of this year’s report, showcases our work and the important role we play in protecting our region’s homes, businesses, and infrastructure recognizing the increasing impacts of climate change. TRCA remains committed as ever to protecting lives and property, preserving, and restoring our region’s natural heritage while providing safe and healthy greenspaces and activities for our communities.

In November 2018, TRCA’s Board of Directors approved a Five-Year Update to Building the Living City 2013-2022 Strategic Plan, which included an increased emphasis on measures and outcomes for work conducted across our organization. The 2020 Annual Report outlines TRCA’s progress in 2020 on achieving these Strategic Plan objectives and outlines some of the major challenges that TRCA will need to overcome in 2021 and beyond, in order to continue making progress. Some of these challenges include addressing public health and safety concerns while continuing our work, mitigating the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic by adopting new business models and approaches, updating our permitting regulation and planning and development processes in consultation with the Province and our partners as new CA Act regulations are enacted, and continuing to support our partners through applying best practices and a science based approach to protect our communities and our shared natural environment recognizing changing Provincial policy.

Please take a few minutes to explore TRCA’s 2020 Annual Report that helps illustrate some of your great work and contributions. I encourage you to view new interactive aspects of the 2020 Annual Report, including our Conservation Matters video, which this year showcases some of our work to address hazards and protect natural resources and illustrates how TRCA contributes to the safety and quality of life in the communities we serve and our shared natural environment.
